I was appalled at the misinformation and erroneous arguments as I read this book. Its whole intent is to convince people that God doesn’t speak to us anymore and neither does the Holy Spirit, except through His Word. I agree that His Word is the main way, but if we have a close, personal relationship with the Lord, He does speak to our hearts. Just because the author is close-minded and has never experienced it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. She writes: “I encourage you to conclude with me that God does not attempt to channel information to us through our circumstances, our feelings, other people, or any other means but the Scriptures.” According to her beliefs, there is no reason to attend church. She goes on to say that the Spirit doesn’t speak to us but just uses the Bible and gives us an understanding of it. How does He give understanding if he doesn’t speak to us in any way? I just pray that she doesn’t lead people astray with this false doctrine.

The book is well written, although I total disagree with her conclusion?
Valerie Howard has thoroughly examined the question of whether or not we hear God's "still small voice", from a Scriptural point of view. Her surprising conclusions will provide the Christian community with much food for thought. Her examination should open a very interesting conversation among believers. Well written and interesting and controversial. Enjoy!
Valerie leads the reader through the scriptures thoughtfully and comprehensively, exploring the topic of God's communication to us and whether He speaks to us in a "still small voice". Her approach is not to force her conclusions upon the reader, but instead encourages them to further search the scriptures for answers. I found the book to be enlightening and encouraging, very well written and a good book for a Woman's Bible Study or Book Club.
The author definitely put a lot of research into this book. Even though I disagree with her premise, it encouraged me to revisit my favorite scripture passages. If nothing else, a Christian with questions will be motivated to study the word of God, and that is always a good thing.
